• Summary

    Hamish is a scientist, hacker and tinkerer. He is currently the research development coordinator at MS Research Australia. Previously, he was a research scientist at the Children’s Medical Research Institute (Sydney, Australia), where he co-authored scientific articles on breast, brain and blood cancers. He believes that through fundamental scientific research a number of advancements in therapies will be developed. He also tinkers with open source microprocessors and electronics, such as arduinos and raspberry pis, he is excited about the impact these community-driven technologies will have in the future. However, it is not all science and technology. Hamish also co-founded True Sports Events which in 2017 successfully launched the BBBRun one of Sydney's newest and most scenic 10km runs. Hamish is a certified running coach, and an adventure motorbike enthusiast, he has tackled India on a vintage Royal Enfield motorbike, transversed the Andes and parts of the Australian outback on a motorbike.

    - Project management and mentoring (Students and research technicians): conceptualisation, overseeing data analyses and report writing
    - Sits on high-level management committees, including Biosafety, ethics committees and grant advisory panels.
    Computer and Bioinformatic skills:
    - Coding in the computer language Ruby and R.
    - Android app creation.

    Research Development Coordinator (2016-present)
    MS Research Australia is the largest national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to funding and coordinating multiple sclerosis (MS) research in Australia, as part of a worldwide effort to solve MS. Its goal is to accelerate research: into the cause, better treatments and prevention of MS, with the aim of ultimately finding a cure for MS.

    True Sports Events

    Co-founder, Co-director, Race Director (2016-present)
    Successfully set up and launched one of Sydney newest and most scenic 10km runs.  The initial run received both TV (channel 9) and print media coverage.

    I have set up the Rhodes edition of parkrun. It is a free 5km timed run, open to everyone to enjoy. Currently, on average we attract around 250 runners each week.
